Abstract
This presentation is focused on the book “The Chronicle of Kozludzha, Varna Province (Suvorovo)” by Protoiereus Hristo Ivanov Popsavov, a local priest. The chronicle was compiled from 1950 to 1976, and constitutes a 264-page manuscript. It is bound together with a printed Gospel that belonged to Father Sava Zhekov, the priest’s grandfather. The book is registered under Library № Б N-35-IX. When it was later added to the inventory of the Varna Museum of the National Revival (‘Department of Bulgarian Lands in the 15th – 19th Century’ of the Varna Regional Museum of History), both the book and the Gospel were paginated. This publication only presents the chronicle portion of this fascinating local history paper. It was prepared for printing by Mariyanka Nikolova, the Chief Curator at the Varna Museum of the National Revival, who spent two years arranging and putting into modern and accessible language various chronicle notes about the history of Kozludzha (present day Suvorovo). Popsavov has written a rich and complete study that is a very useful reference for historical figures and events in the area. Father Hristo has included many photos in the chronicle about Kozludzha, including pictures of his fellow villagers, important figures from the village, public buildings and preserved clothes. The genealogical trees of many village families are listed as separate appendices at the end of the book.
