Abstract
This article presents the results from the analysis of the textile found in Grave № 3 from Church № 2 cemetery in mediaeval Kastritsi, near Varna, discovered in 2020. The textile remains found on and around the skull are from a woman’s hat. The main part of the hat was decorated with a band of metal thread (gilded silver strip wound around silk core) textile. It is a striped fabric consisting of wide, gilded fields separated by narrower coloured stripes with gilt X-form design. Similar textiles were spread throughout Bulgarian lands in the 14th century.
